‘Christian witness means being a good neighbour’. This year’s guest speaker at the annual garden party at Our Lady of Victories, Kensington, was Dr Harry Hagopian, international lawyer and ecumenical adviser on matters relating to the Holy Land. In his address, he explained: ‘Christian witness does not solely manifest itself by reciting the Bible back to front! Witness in the ethos of the Churches of the Orient is focused more intimately on setting an example, on being a neighbour, and on working with other faiths. And in that small parcel of biblical land which we call the Holy Land, hope cannot only be a vision. It has to be a vision in action.’
He urged those present to visit the birthplace of Christianity. The annual event, which raised £5,500 for Friends of the Holy Land (FHL), was attended by 130 guests. The funds will go towards supporting the tiny Christian population in Gaza.
