At Caritas Westminster, we are coordinating the diocesan response to Pope Francis' call to Catholic communities to take in Syrian refugees.
In line with Cardinal Vincent and Archbishop Peter Smith’s pledge to work with the government in this time of crisis, we will be offering support to some of the 20,000 refugees who will be arriving the UK over the next five years. In order to provide vital services to those who need them most, we need the help of parish communities.
We are looking for volunteers who can offer their time, skills and dedication to make sure that refugees are welcomed and provided for. As individuals who are fleeing from conflict and newly arrived in the UK, refugees will need, amongst other things:
- ESOL (English as a Second Language teaching)
- Legal advice
- Medical services
- Befriending
- Basic necessities.
If you think you can help, please get in touch with your local parish and give your name, contact details, and details of any skills you can offer.
If you would like to support our work, then please donate here.
We are facing the worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War. Your contribution will make a world of difference to individuals who are trying to rebuild their lives in a country far from home.
