St Joseph’s Hospice today announced that Paddy McGuinness will step down as Chair of Trustees at the end of April, concluding almost nine years in the role. He will also stand down as a Trustee in the Autumn.

During his tenure, St Joseph’s Hospice navigated a period of financial challenges, the COVID pandemic, and a renewed opportunity to contribute even more to end of life care as it becomes an increasing focus for policymakers.

Paddy McGuinness said: “For almost nine years it has been my privilege to work with the Board of Trustees as we support and enable the inspiring work that staff and volunteers at St Joseph’s do for our patients and their families. It has been the most rewarding charitable work I have done, and I have been constantly humbled by the compassion and commitment shown every day.”

The Trustee of the Diocese of Westminster has appointed fellow Trustee Simon Bunce to succeed Paddy McGuinness as Chair. Simon brings extensive business and finance experience, alongside significant experience as a trustee in the education sector and with the Diocese. A handover is underway throughout April.

Paddy added: “I leave St Joseph’s Hospice in capable hands. Through the grace of God, the Religious Sisters of Charity have given us an extraordinary legacy of place, funds, people, and culture. St Joseph’s will continue to play an impactful role in the hospice movement, and I will be following your success with interest. God bless you all.”

He also thanked St Joseph’s staff and volunteers, and especially supporters and donors across Hackney, Tower Hamlets, the City of London and Newham who enable and inform our work.

St Joseph’s Hospice provides compassionate, specialist care, free of charge, for people in East London with life-limiting illness, and support for their families and carers.

Services include inpatient care, community support, day services, bereavement support and advice for professionals.
