Sister Bernadette, a member of the Sisters of Charity of St. Jeanne Antide, has been awarded a diocesan medal in recognition of her lifelong dedication to Catholic Education and Seminary Formation. The honour was bestowed, on behalf of Cardinal Vincent Nichols, during a Mass celebrated by Bishop John Sherrington.

Sister Bernadette began her teaching career in schools within the diocese before dedicating more than 20 years to Allen Hall Seminary, where her contributions were widely acknowledged as 'outstanding.'

During his homily, Bishop Sherrington expressed gratitude for Sister Bernadette's service, stating:
'We give thanks to God for the many ways in which Sister Bernadette has been a faithful witness to Christ in her work in education and formation at the seminary.'

In support of the award, many former students submitted testimonials praising Sister Bernadette's impact on their lives. One former pupil, now a journalist, remarked:
'Sister Bernadette stands out as one of the most inspirational people I have met. She is a wonderful example of a great communicator, a true servant of the Church, and someone who deeply loves and serves the Lord and His people.'

A colleague from Allen Hall echoed these sentiments, highlighting her faith and personal warmth:
'Her own faith and personal warmth shone through her teaching. She inspired students to embrace spiritual reading as an essential part of their lives.'

Her gifts of listening, discerning, as well as a gentle but firm word, is remembered fondly by many former students, seminarians and priests.

Sr. Bernadette accepted her Award with deep humility and appreciation.
