The Church of St Mary and St Joseph in Poplar, which is Grade II listed, was designed by Adrian Gilbert Scott at the time of the Festival of Britain in the 1950s.
As it is now 60 years old, it requires urgent maintenance work to prevent water penetration through the gutters.
The parish successfully secured a grant of £58,800 from the Listed Place of Worship Roof Repair Fund to ensure that the church will be weathertight, safe and open for use. This is one of 502 grants from a total funding package of £30million announced for urgent roof repairs for places of worship by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
