During National Volunteer’s Week, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), held ceremonies throughout England and Wales for parish volunteers who have served their communities.

Among the honourees was Locksley Philips, a Staines-based volunteer who has served in his parish for over 25 years.

Congratulating Locksley, his parish priest, Fr Philip Dyer-Perry shared, “Locksley has served the parish with incredible loyalty and dedication for many years.”

“As well as being a CAFOD volunteer, Locksley has served (and still does) as a First Communion catechist, Reader, and Steward. His wife, Frances, is now in a local care home, and this has been hard for them both, as together they brought a much life and love to our parish community.

“Locksley continues to serve in his various volunteer roles here at Our Lady of the Rosary, and we couldn’t do without him!”

Christine Allen, CAFOD Director and CEO, said: [The Pope’s blessing] “highlights the significant role that volunteers play in strengthening communities and building a better world. These volunteers continue to inspire all of us through their service. Their example reminds us of the importance of working for the common good.”
