Last week Edward de Quay, our development worker forHertfordshire, joined Caritas Salford for a thought-provoking seminar on dementia. This was led by Ben Bano, director of a community-interest company focusing on person-centred approaches to dementia care. A key message of the seminar was that we need to maintain a positive attitude when dealing with dementia, and to celebrate the gifts and abilities of those with a dementia rather than focusing on their limitations. We were encouraged to be practical about approaching dementia at a parish level, and to undertake a parish dementia audit to make sure that the needs of individuals with a dementia are catered for.
If you want more information about your church’s response to individuals with a dementia, or if you are interested in arranging a talk on the subject, please contact Edward.

Our thanks to Caritas Salford for their invitation and welcome.
