Westminster Interfaith started life as a local interfaith group in Southall, founded by Br Daniel Faivre SG in 1981, at the invitation of Bishop Gerald Mahon MHM. Bishop Gerald participated in the Second Vatican Council and had been a part of the production of Nostra Aetate.

Br Daniel, pictured here outside Westminster Cathedral, was a Brother of St Gabriel. Travelling from his native France to England, he settled in Southall in the late 1970s. After seeing Br Daniel’s work, Cardinal Basil Hume asked him to do what he was doing in Southall for the whole of the Diocese.

From this foundation, as the first Catholic interfaith agency in Great Britain, Westminster Interfaith has worked for over 40 years to promote greater understanding, co-operation and respect between Catholics and people of other religions. This work has helped generations of Catholics to deepen their own faith through dialogue.

Today, Westminster Interfaith works in parishes, schools and communities across the Diocese to help put into action the Church’s teaching on interreligious dialogue. If you are interested in our work, take a look at our “Upcoming Events” page or sign up to our mailing list.
