Last week Pope Francis released the encyclical Laudato Si, in which he calls upon us all to change our attitude towards our treatment of our common home. He shows us that environmental destruction and the destruction of human lives are inextricably linked, and tells us that we have the power to restore the dignity of people whose lives are affected by poverty, socially irresponsible economic models, and environmental damage. To do this, we must end our current 'throwaway culture', and consider both the kind of world we wish to live in and the world we wish to leave to future generations.
