With sadness we announce the death, on 24th January, of Bishop Patrick O’Donoghue, formerly a priest and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Westminster and Bishop Emeritus of Lancaster. Bishop Patrick died peacefully at home in Nazareth House, Mallow in Co. Cork where he had been living since 2013, close to family and friends and being cared for by the Sisters and staff there.
Sympathy is extended to Bishop Patrick's family and friends, to those with whom he lived in retirement and the clergy, religious and parishioners of his former parishes in the Diocese of Westminster and beyond.
Funeral arrangements will be made in accordance with the protocols necessary due to the coronavirus pandemic.
We pray for the repose of the soul of Bishop Patrick:
Lord Jesus, our Redeemer,
you willingly gave yourself up to death so that all people might be saved and pass from death into a new life.
Listen to our prayers, look with love on your people who mourn and pray for Bishop Patrick.
Lord Jesus, holy and compassionate, forgive his sins.
By dying you opened the gates of life for those who believe in you.
Do not let our brother be parted from you, but by your glorious power give him light, joy and peace in heaven
where you live for ever and ever.
May the soul of this faithful servant of the Lord rest in peace. Amen.
