On the afternoon of Tuesday, 16 December a group of Bishop Challoner students from Years 7, 8 and 9 visited patients at St Joseph’s hospice to spread some Christmas cheer. The students gave out mince pies that they had baked themselves that morning to staff and patients and sang Christmas carols in two of the wards.

The Year 7 Choir sang a rendition of ‘Let it go’ from the film ‘Frozen’, and a rendition of ‘O Holy Night’ sung by the older Chamber Choir (Years 9 and 10) was a real hit.

The event was organised by the Bishop Challoner Parents and Friends Association, a group made up of parents and staff looking primarily for ways to strengthen ties between our students, parents and staff and the local community. St Joseph’s hospice is very well known to Bishop Challoner staff and students and was the first place that the PFA thought of.

Leia, a Year 9 Girl, said after the event that 'It was an honour to bring so much joy to people at Christmas time!'

Chris Cowie, a Parental Support Worker at Bishop Challoner said that 'Bishop Challoner has been a part of the local community for well over 100 years, and during that time a huge number of former students have had close connections with St Josephs as staff, patients or relatives of patients. As a school we wanted to thank the hospice for being such an important part of our area. Our students had a wonderful day and were so appreciative of the chance to meet and talk to patients.'
