On Tuesday 6 November, Archbishop Vincent Nichols inaugurated the Year of Faith for youth and young adults as he launched ‘You Believe’, Westminster Youth Ministry’s series of monthly catechesis. Over 150 people from across the Diocese gathered at St Aloysius, Somers Town as Archbishop Nichols asked the question ‘What is Faith’. Courtesy of Aid to the Church in Need, participants were given a copy of YOUCAT, an abridged version of the Cathechism for young people, which Archbishop Vincent encouraged them to use in reflecting on this question.
The evening was animated by the volunteer missionaries from SPEC, Westminster Youth Ministry’s day and residential retreat centre in Hertfordshire. Amanda Grassi, one of the programme leaders at SPEC, and Rebekah Curran, a second year volunteer from Hemel Hempstead, shared something of their own faith story, with other members of the SPEC community leading the gathering in prayer, music, praise and a reflection on the creed.
The next gathering in the ‘You Believe’ series will be on Tuesday 4 December when Bishop John Arnold will lead us in a reflection on the New Evangelisation. Again, it will be held at St Aloysius, just a few hundred yards from Euston Station and a five minute walk from both Euston Square and Kings Cross. Early in the new year, following an eight month refurbishment programme, a new Centre for Youth Ministry and home for Westminster Youth Ministry will be opened at St Aloysius.
