Come with the Diocese on Pilgrimage to the Shrine at Walsingham
on Saturday 21st September 2019
Cardinal Vincent Nichols leads this year’s Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham on Saturday 21st September 2019.
Thank you to Parishes and groups that have registered with the Pilgrimage Office for Health and Safety purposes, as not only is there a limited number of spaces for coaches, but the information has helped Pilgrimage organisers and the Shrine itself manage the hundreds of pilgrims attending on the day.
Private vehicles arriving at the Shrine parking area are requested to follow instructions from Westminster's Stewards. (Note: please be prepared to pay a pilgrims' levy of £5 per pilgrim on arrival.)
The theme of the pilgrimage, "Blessed are the poor, for the Kingdom of God is theirs” echoes the words of his Holiness Pope Francis in his Message for the XXVII World Day of the Sick 2019. This one-day pilgrimage will take place close to the Feast day of Our Lady of Walsingham.
From 2018 to 2020, the statue of Our Lady from the Slipper Chapel at the Catholic National Shrine in Walsingham is touring each Catholic Cathedral in England as part of the preparation for the rededication of England as the Dowry of Mary in 2020. Westminster Archdiocese is scheduled to receive a visit between 19th to 21st March 2020.
Get ready for Lourdes 2020!
Westminster's next Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will be from 25th to 31st July 2020. Have the fundraising efforts of your Parish or School helped get you or a loved one to Lourdes with the Diocese? Have you given your support to a fundraising event to help youth volunteers serve as Red Caps in Lourdes? If you would like materials and presentations to give a talk in your Parish or school, or would like a guest speaker to come to you, get in touch with Elizabeth in the Pilgrimage Office on 0207 798 9173 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are you a school group wanting to travel to Lourdes next year? Several schools have been successfully fundraising to support their Red Caps, teachers and volunteers who help in Lourdes. Training is always available.
Please consider ways in which you can fundraise to help send a sick or elderly pilgrim, a Medical Team volunteer, helper or a youth volunteer from your Parish to Lourdes with the Diocese.

'Another lovely Pilgrimage to Lourdes!'
The Caritas St Joseph's Hendon group and many, many others added to the hundreds of Westminster pilgrims who experienced some incredibly hot summer weather during the 2019 Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes from 20th to 26th July. Sincere thanks and appreciation to all Red Caps and Team and Group Leaders, St Frai Volunteer Helpers, and the Medical Team of Volunteer Doctors and Nurses who looked after Assisted Pilgrims throughout the week. Letter of thanks have been received by the Pilgrimage Office and an assisted pilgrim praised the Red Caps and helpers who 'go not the extra mile, but extra endless miles to help people!' Do please consider being a volunteer with Westminster Diocese in 2020 or share this rewarding opportunity with others.
