Lourdes Fundraising 2018
On 13th April 2018, Bob and his grandson William completed a mammoth walkathon from their Parish Church of St John Fisher, Shepperton, following the River Thames downstream to Westminster Cathedral.
Having been a Lourdes pilgrim since birth, William, now aged 15, succeeded alongside his dear Granddad in exceeding the pair's target to send a sick person to Lourdes.
Their welcome party included family and friends, and Fr Michael Quaicoe who gave them a blessing on their return. If you would like to top up the very generous donations received so far for this very worthy cause, go to https://www.gofundme.com/bob-amp-william-walk-to-westminster
Remember: Gift Aid makes your donations go further, so do please sign-up if you are a UK Taxpayer.
'Peter's Way of the Cross' at the Old Bailey
This wonderful event will take place in the Great Hall of the iconic Old Bailey, London EC4M 7EH on Wednesday 30th May 2018, with a Reception from 18:30 and the Performance from 19:30. Tickets are now on sale at £50.00 per person including pre-performance reception, canapes and complimentary drinks.
All proceeds will be donated to assisting the sick and disabled pilgrims on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
The theme for Lourdes 2018 is 'Do whatever He tells you'. This year's Diocesan pilgrimage is from Saturday 21st to Friday 27th July 2018 due to changes in airport flight scheduling and other operational changes. Booking forms are available from the Pilgrimage Office at Vaughan House and leaflets are available at the back of the Cathedral.
Alternatively, contact Tangney Tours on 01732 88 6666 as there is now a new option to book online for the Diocesan Pilgrimage https://www.tangney-tours.com/pilgrimages/lourdes/westminster-lourdes
Please note: Independent travellers, i.e. those who are not travelling with Tangney Tours, must arrange to make a suggested payment of £30 levy per person cost towards running costs of the Diocesan Pilgrimage in the Shrine at Lourdes and the support and care of sick pilgrims in the St Frai.
If you are over 18, your help would be very much appreciated as a St Frai Helper. Some of our sick pilgrims in most need of support and medical care stay in a hospital-like building called the Accueil St Frai in the centre of Lourdes. It is well-equipped for their care and they are looked after by a team of doctors, nurses and volunteer St Frai Helpers.
The role of a St Frai helper is to support the nurses and provide the sort of care for which you don’t need a medical qualification. This includes helping the pilgrims get up and ready in the morning; making large amounts of tea; taking the pilgrims to various pilgrimage events; shopping and socialising with them and other helpers; and putting them to bed at night. The timetable is shared across two shifts so there is enough time to rest, make your own pilgrimage, spend time with your groups and make new friends.
Helping in the St Frai is an extremely moving and rewarding experience. Working in the St Frai is an opportunity to give our care and company to our pilgrims and make a huge difference in their lives.
If you are interested in helping in the St Frai in Lourdes, please email chief helper Nick Leonard and team at email@example.com
The next Lourdes Reunion Mass will be celebrated on 5th June 2018 at 6:35 pm in the Cathedral Crypt (entrance by Ambroseden Avenue). There will be time afterwards for drinks and a social gathering at a nearby venue and a chance to find out more about the work that the Westminster Diocesan Pilgrimage does whilst in Lourdes.
