The Palm Sunday procession, which commemorates Jesus’s entry into the city of Jerusalem, was celebrated outdoors by parishes across the diocese. The Sunday also marked the beginning of Holy Week, with the narrative of the Lord’s Passion this year being taken from St Matthew’s Gospel.

At Westminster Cathedral Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, presided over the Blessing of Palms, Procession and Mass, whilst amongst others St Thomas More parish, Manor House took part in an ecumenical procession with four other nearby churches. Ethnic chaplaincies, such as the Syriac Catholic community under its chaplain Mgr Nizar Semaan, also celebrated the liturgy in their own rite.

Holy Week continues tomorrow with the Diocesan Chrism Mass, when the Holy Oils will be blessed for the coming year, taking place at Westminster Cathedral before the fuller liturgical celebration of the Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Maundy Thursday evening.
