Ash Wednesday saw many of the faithful responding to the Cardinal's call to return to Mass around the diocese, including Westminster Cathedral, where all Masses on the day were well-attended.
Celebrating the capitular Mass in the Cathedral, the Cardinal reiterated his call for prayers for Ukraine. He asked that we continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and for peace throughout Lent.
'Today we stand on the threshold of Lent,' he said. 'Today we are reminded that we are made from dust, but that we are destined for glory.'
As the Westminster Cathedral Choir sang Gregorio Allegri's Miserere Mei Deus, a setting of Psalm 51, the congregation came forward to receive ashes.
