On 2 March, Cardinal Vincent celebrated Mass for primary school pupils who had made a pilgrimage to the Cathedral as part of the Year of Mercy. 900 primary school pupils, who had entered through the Holy Door, were gathered for the lively and beautiful Mass.

In his homily, the Cardinal encouraged the children to re-read the words of the gospel which encourage them to ‘be compassionate…do not judge…do not condemn…give, and there will be gifts poured into your lap.’ He explained that the mercy of Jesus is what helps us to pick ourselves up again when we have done something wrong: to start afresh and to go forth and try again.
