It is such a joy for us all to be gathered here today. The occasion is splendid, for we want so much to express our thanks and esteem to Albert, Carmel and all family and friends.
This beautiful Benedictine torch, present in this Cathedral for the first time, is a powerful symbol of our longing for peace, for hope and for unity.
We all come to this Mass and Ordination with a great humility of heart.
At the heart of the faith we celebrate at this Mass are the words of St Peter we have just heard: ‘Set yourselves close to him so that you too, the holy priesthood that offers spiritual sacrifices which Jesus Christ has made acceptable to God, may be living stones making a spiritual house.’
