On Saturday 8 October 2016 Bishop John Sherrington lead a Pilgrimage of Mercy to St Albans Cathedral to St Albans, with vespers in the Abbey at 4:00pm.

The event began in Verulamium Park at 2.30pm, with an enactment of the story of St Alban, and was followed by a procession into the cathedral, past the shrine of St Alban, and ecumenical Evensong at 4.00pm in the cathedral, with Bishop John Sherrington, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, preaching the homily. There was then an opportunity to solemnly venerate the relic of St Alban after Evensong, a very moving moment for several pilgrims.

Thanks are extended to the numerous schools and teachers who participated with volunteer stewards as well as those who proudly followed their banner in the procession.  Special appreciation also goes to the primary school pupils who attended as Roman soldiers in full costume for this event, one of the final pilgrimages in the Year of Mercy.
