This morning, Westminster pilgrims joined hundreds from around the world for the International Mass in the vast underground Basilica of St Pie X. The sense of unity was powerful, as voices from every continent rose together in prayer, a reminder that we are one Church, united in Christ.

At the same time, other pilgrims celebrated the Family Mass in St Joseph’s Chapel, a smaller but no less meaningful gathering for families, carers, and the children they accompany.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray:

'Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’
And he said to them, "When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation."'

(Luke 11:1-4)

As pilgrims reflected on these words, they were reminded that prayer is at the heart of this pilgrimage: learning again to place trust in God as Father, the source of all hope; to ask for what we need each day; and to forgive as we are forgiven.

This afternoon, some pilgrims are taking the opportunity to go on a walking tour of Lourdes, discovering the story of St Bernadette and the town that continues to welcome millions each year.

Now, as evening approaches, pilgrims are preparing for the Marian Torchlight Procession, which Westminster has the honour of leading tonight. With candles in hand, they will walk and pray together under the stars, entrusting themselves to Our Lady.

Please continue to pray for us, as we pray for you.
