This morning, pilgrims gathered for Mass at the Grotto, joining with pilgrims from the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton to celebrate this special liturgy at the very place where Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette.

Today’s Gospel told the story of the Wedding at Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle at Mary’s request:

‘When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”… His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” … This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.’

(John 2:1-11)

As pilgrims reflected on this reading, they were reminded of Mary’s role as intercessor, always pointing us towards her Son and encouraging us, too, to ‘Do whatever he tells you.’

After Mass, pilgrims passed through the Grotto itself, pausing to pray where Our Lady appeared, entrusting their prayers and intentions to her maternal care.

This afternoon, many pilgrims ventured out to Gavarnie, a picturesque village nestled in the Pyrénées. There, surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains and waterfalls, they found space for quiet reflection, conversation, and rest, a reminder of the beauty of God’s creation and the peace he offers.
