In the video, Cardinal Vincent introduces the day's schedule, which includes Mass celebrated in the Cathedral of the Trees in Cite St Pierre. In the afternoon, one of the highlights of the pilgrimage takes place: the Blessed Sacrament procession. Cardinal Vincent reflects on the special significance of this moment in the journey of the pilgrims.
Here's a summary of today's highlights.
This morning we had a reminder that not everyone comes here to visit the shrine of Our Lady. The Tour De France, cycle race, passes very close to Lourdes today and our path this morning was blocked by a large gang of cyclists who were waiting to go out and cheer on the competitors.
But we had our own journey to make, just a little way into the mountains, to what we call the ‘Cathedral in the Trees.’ It’s a spot beloved by most of the Westminster pilgrims. The weather was just right, warm without being oppressively hot. We were a very impressive site as we all sat on the grassy steps that stretch up the hillside. Cardinal Nichols and Bishop John Sherrington took a bit of a back seat today and the chief celebrant was Cardinal Comac Murphy O’Connor.
And this afternoon we led another event. The Blessed Sacrament is the also procession for which Lourdes is famous. Hundreds of us had the privilege of escorting the Body of Jesus through the Sanctuary to celebrate a service of adoration in the Underground Basilica. It was a most moving occasion.
In between the two events, Cardinal Vincent and Bishop John called in to the Accueil St Frai to visit those who were staying there, along with the medical teams, Red Caps, volunteers and chaplains who were looking after them. Each of the 'malades' had an opportunity to spend a little individual time with Cardinal Vincent and Bishop John, who also gave each malade a blessing. It was a joyous occasion with many smiles.
Please cotinue to pray with and for the pilgrims.
