Decree concerning the reconfiguration of Camden, Islington and Marylebone Deaneries
In order to foster better pastoral care by means of common action Canon 374 §2 of the Code of Canon Law provides that several neighbouring parishes can be joined together in special groups known as Deaneries which are presided over by a Dean who is a priest appointed by the Diocesan Bishop.
Having consulted with the Deans, the Parish Priests and other priests charged with pastoral care of the faithful in the three Deaneries of Camden, Islington and Marylebone I have determined that common action would be more effectively accomplished by reconfiguring these Deaneries as follows:
The Deanery of Marylebone will now consist of the Parishes of Farm Street, Hampstead, Haverstock Hill, Kilburn, Kilburn West, Marylebone, Ogle Street, St John's Wood, Spanish Place and Swiss Cottage and the University Chaplaincy. The Ukrainian Cathedral Parish may be invited to meetings of the Marylebone Deanery.
The Deanery of Camden and the Deanery of Islington will be replaced by the Deanery of Camden & Islington which will consist of the Parishes of Archway, Bunhill Row, Camden Town, Clerkenwell, Copenhagen Street, Highbury, Highgate, Holloway, Islington, Kentish Town, Somers Town and Tollington Park. The Polish Catholic Mission Parish in Islington may be invited to meetings of the Camden & Islington Deanery.
The Dean of Marylebone, Canon Kevin Jordan, will continue in office until his present term expires. The Dean of the new Deanery of Camden and Islington will be Fr. Ivano Millico, who shall serve until the date his term as Dean of Islington would have expired.
These changes are to become effective from 1 September 2025 and this decree is to be published on the Diocesan Website.
Given this 2nd day of June 2025.
