On 18 October catechists from parishes in East and Central London, gathered with Bishop Nicholas Hudson for the third Jubilee Day for Catechists to be held this year. (The first was co-led by Cardinal Vincent in July at St Gregory the Great parish in South Ruislip, and the second was co-led by Canon Shaun Lennard at Our Lady of Willesden earlier in October).
The Day for Catechists in East and Central London was organised and led by the Agency for Evangelisation with colleagues from Caritas Westminster and Westminster Youth Ministry team. It was held at St Mary and St Joseph’s church in Poplar, the Jubilee Church for that area.
The theme for the day was 'Reawakening Blessed Hope'. Drawing from St John’s account of the Feeding of the Five Thousand, those present reflected on how God nourishes us and how we in turn nourish others. In his catechesis, Bishop Nicholas spoke of his understanding of what a catechist is, reflecting on his own sense of vocation and how it developed, and drawing heavily on the Directory for Catechesis.
This was the third of our four Jubilee Catechists’ Days which will be held this year in the different pastoral areas of the diocese. The final Day will be on Saturday 15th November, for catechists from parishes in Hertfordshire with Bishop Paul McAleenan at Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 3TP.
