The former Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz, passed away on 31 October in Spain where he had been undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.
Archbishop Faustino was the Nuncio from 2004 until December 2010 when he retired due to ill health. Prior to his role in Great Britain Archbishop Faustino was Nuncio to the Democratic Republic of Congo, the European Communities in Brussels and Cuba.
Mgr Marcus Stock, the General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, spoke of the great sadness felt by the Bishops and talked of Archbishop Faustino’s “untiring devotion and great attentiveness to the needs of our countries. Before his premature retirement due to ill health, he had won the profound respect of the diplomatic community and the hearts of the episcopal conferences he worked with.”
Archbishop Faustino’s funeral will take place on 2 November at 8.00pm in Madrid.
