Join us for a joyful and profound experience at St Albans Cathedral. From 10am to 4pm we will be offering different ways of exploring the Scriptures in prayer, through creative activities and in Bible study.
Tents of Encounter
Throughout the Scripture Festival, the largest nave in England will have Tents of Encounter based on the following themes:
Welcome the Word: ‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me…’ (Matthew 10.40)
Receiving the Word: ‘The Word became flesh and lived among us…’ (John 1: 14)
There is something for all ages in this tent from learning through play with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to deepening your knowledge with our Catechetical advisors or praying with Scripture led by the following groups
- Agency for Evangelisation - Thursday
- Catechesis of the Good Shepherd - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
- Weave of Manquehue Prayer - Friday and Saturday
Mary and the Word: ‘My soul magnifies the Lord…’ (Luke 1: 46)
Allow our Blessed Mother to lead you to her son in one of the variety of prayers offered by the Prayer and Life Team.
Seeing the Word: ‘He has made everything beautiful for its time...’ (Ecclesiastes 3: 11)
Exploring the Word: ‘Your word is a lamp for my steps...’ (Psalm 118 (119): 105)
The Bible can seem so intimidating, especially if trying to tackle is alone. The following groups will be on hand to help you delve into God’s word with an expectant faith of hearing the God Who Speaks.
- Faith CaFE - Thursday, Friday and Saturday
- Come and See Ministries: Bible Timeline - Saturday
Sharing the Word: ‘You will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth...’ (Acts 1:8)
So often we want the best for our loved ones but can be at a loss to know how to share our faith. God’s word can help with this. Sion Community, Landings and Alpha all have innovative ways to help us reach the people we love with the Good News.
Living the Word: ‘Let justice roll down like waters…’ (Amos 5: 24)
One of the ways we share our faith is to live in a way that blesses others. A group of organisations coordinated by the Justice and Peace commission will help pilgrims reflect and act for Justice and Peace.
Celebrating the Word: ‘Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name…’ (1 Chronicles 16: 8)
Primary School Assembly on Thursday
Our Young Pilgrims will be greeted and hosted by Westminster Youth Ministry as they are invited into the adventure of discovering the God Who Speaks. Rise Theatre and Open the Book will creatively animate this time of Celebrating the Word.
Midday Mass on Friday
Hermione Thomas will prepare a group of students to lead the music for the regular Mass that takes place at St Albans Cathedral. Join us for a beautiful celebration of Mass.
Behold the Word Performance
At 11am on Saturday, Michelle Moran and Abbot Christopher Jamison will host a creative journey through the Good News performed by Steve Murray-Hanson, a talented mime artist.
Little Bits of God
A specially commissioned piece of artwork for the God who Speaks campaign will be installed in the middle of the nave. There will be the opportunity to explore and hear about this beautiful three-dimensional creation from the God who Speaks national campaign coordinator, Fleur Dorrell.
