“……I once more invoke the Holy Spirit. I implore him to come and renew the Church, to stir and impel her to go forth boldly to evangelize all peoples.”  - Pope Francis, Evangelli Gaudium (261)

Where to start?  After the successful Proclaim Spring Gatherings 2019 which attracted over 200 people from more than 60 different parishes, the first question might be ‘where do we begin?’ What is the next step in building a missionary parish and forming missionary disciples?

In Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis reminds us how at Pentecost the Holy Spirit ‘made the Apostles go forth’.  We recall how the Apostles had been in the Upper Room for nine days since the Ascension of Our Lord, ‘joined in continuous prayer’ waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Perhaps this too can be our starting point.

It has been a long tradition to follow the example of the Apostles, to pray the Pentecost Novena – nine days of prayer – calling on the Holy Spirit to refresh the Church in its mission to the world.  Since 2016, this tradition has been given new energy through ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ.
