Last Things First
"As a Catholic what do you believe about saints?" "What does the Church teach about life after death?" "Do Catholics believe in Hell any more?" "What is the Catholic belief in the Second Coming of Christ?" These are typical questions about the Catholic Faith often asked by friends, work colleagues, or members of the family, or by those enquiring about Catholicism in our parishes, schools and colleges. They represent a great challenge to explain what we believe and so engage in the call to evangelise. Yet sometimes we feel unprepared. There are some gaps in our knowledge of what the Church says.
The autumn series of Faith Matters is designed to fill some of these gaps and to take us deeper into the treasures of our Catholic Faith. Each week an invited speaker presents the basics on a particular topic and invites us to reflect on how what we believe makes a difference to our personal lives and to the wider society of which we are a part. The theme for this autumn's series is 'Last Things First', focussing on Catholic belief in the after-life. Following each talk an online discussion forum on the diocesan website will give opportunity for questions, a selection of which will be answered with references to the sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to which they apply.
