Welcome to the website of our Diocesan Parish Catechetical Support Team.
'Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things are passing away:
God never changes. Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices.'
(St Teresa of Avila)
Our Christian journey is always one of joys and challenges, of new experiences and, we hope, of fresh insights into more familiar experiences. This year we have faced, and continue to face, quite unexpected events which have led us into many new understandings of what it means to be Church.
As we continue to journey in this time, the experience of which is so unfamiliar, these words of St Teresa of Avila seem so appropriate, and give us strength and confidence.
Our gathering together again for the celebration of the Eucharist reminds us that we are moving into the period during which we plan and prepare for new opportunities for catechesis and formation and for sacramental programmes, for First Communion, for Confirmation, for RCIA. We are faced with challenges we have not met before.
We hope that you will find in these catechesis pages resources that may support you. These pages will be updated as we develop and become aware of further resources, as will other Diocesan pages, so do check the website regularly.
New Directory For Catechesis
In July we saw the publication of the new, third edition of the Directory for Catechesis, a document for all catechists.
Bishop Mark O’Toole, Bishop of Plymouth Chair of the Department for Evangelisation and Discipleship of the Bishops’ Conference of England & Wales, writes;
‘I warmly welcome the new Directory for Catechesis. This outstanding text has been long awaited and much anticipated. It is a document filled with the joy of the Gospel and looks at Catechesis very much through the lens of Evangelisation. Rooting itself in Pope Francis’ exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, the context and the driving force for the Directory, it invites us to see every moment of catechesis as an opportunity to announce Jesus Christ anew. All catechesis must seek to bring the person into an encounter with Jesus, the centre of what is proclaimed and taught.’
This Vatican document is now available to purchase from the Catholic Truth Society (CTS)
