On Tuesday 14 May the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, officially opened and blessed the new Centre for Youth Ministry based at St Aloysius, Somers Town. Archbishop Nichols then went on to hold a catechesis talk, as well as a question and answer session, with the young people present.
Speaking at the launch of the new Centre for Youth Ministry Fr Michael O’Boy, who has pastoral oversight for the youth ministry spoke of the importance of youth ministry: ““Central to the life of our parishes are our young people, so developing parish based youth ministry is an important part of helping our young people reach full Christian maturity and become meaningfully involved in the life of the parish.”
Phil Ross, Director of Youth Ministry, was keen to stress the great benefits the centre would bring for all young people in the diocese and the opportunities it would open up in the future. The centre’s location in Somers Town is accessible to all via its excellent transport links. This includes parishes in Hertfordshire which are served by train services to Euston and Kings Cross.
The evening also had performances by Edwin Fawcett, who has been invited to perform at World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro.
