The Douay Martyrs School community came together with a coalition of social workers and social action groups to meet the human needs of the Calais Refugees.

Staff, students and parents donated winter clothing for those  in desperate circumstances as the winter approaches in Calais.  Men, women and children's clothing were donated, along with sleeping bags, blankets, toiletries, even old pots and pans, and candles.

In addition to the donated items, staff and students also visited the charity shops and purchased many other items of clothing to donate.

School Chaplain, Luisa Foley said, 'This is a demonstration of love and a reflection of the truth that we are all God's children and we care for one another.  Thus the charity endeavours and the results are not only enjoyed by the students and staff at The Douay Martyrs School but also by the local and wider community.'

@We are very proud of our students and their sense of community responsibility and enthusiasm for citizenship in action,' she added. 'They love to engage in a wide range of fundraising activities, and each time they excel themselves on every occasion.'

The collection was organised by Unison Hillingdon, who transported over 50 large black sacks to the suffering people caught up in Calais.
