The Priest as Witness

Archbishop Vincent Nichols concludes the series by considering ‘The Priest as  Witness’.  “Much of the life of the priest”, says the Archbishop, “is centred on his public ministry, spoken of in terms of a ministry of preaching the Word of God, a ministry of celebrating the Sacraments and a ministry of the pastoral care of the people in his care.  These are the ministerial tasks he fulfils ‘in the person of Christ the Head’.  Yet the life of the priest is, in itself, a gift given to the Lord and, in every detail, can be a witness to the power of grace.  Everything about the priest, then, can be a witness to Christ.  Of course we often fail, and quite spectacularly.  Yet this is our ambition and our calling.”

Adult Formation Summary

Pope John Paul II wrote that the 'formation and enrichment' of all members of the Church will enable 'the proclamation of Christ to reach people, mould communities, and have a deep and incisive influence in bringing Gospel values to bear in society and culture.'
