Judgement, Heaven and Hell

The Catholic Faith affirms a twin belief in the final judgment at the second coming of Christ and the particular judgment made   of each soul ‘immediately after death in accordance with his works and faith' (Catechism, #1021). The Church teaches how the scriptures set before us the hope of our true destiny in heaven while at the same time affirming the ‘definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed' which is called ‘hell'. Fr Dominic Robinson, SJ will attempt to explain why the Church teaches what it does and how this fits with a God we know to be just, loving and merciful.
