The Education Service

Induction and Training

In becoming a school governor,  you take on one of the most important and valuable roles in education – the strategic leadership of a school. You share in the corporate responsibility for ensuring that your school is conducted as a Catholic school and promoting high educational standards. Induction training may be provided by your local authority; however, governors in a Catholic school have specific responsibilities  so the diocese provides additional training which will help you to understand the purpose of Catholic education and  fulfil your role effectively.

“Effective boards encourage everyone involved in governance, especially those new to their role, to make the most of the resources, guidance and training available to develop their knowledge and skills.”
Governance Handbook

For details of training available from the diocese see the link in the related documents section on the right.
