A Director of Music is required for the above church from March 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Parish of St Anselm and St Cecilia has a long tradition of fine music making going back to its origins as the former Royal Sardinian Chapel.
The Director’s principal duties are rehearsing and directing the music at two Sunday Masses throughout the year, with the exception of the month of August. A children’s choir sings at the 10.00am Mass, and the Director will be expected to rehearse the choir on a weekday evening each week (currently Friday). An adult volunteer choir sings for the 12.00 Solemn Mass, and they currently rehearse immediately prior to the service. The repertoire for the Solemn Mass is drawn largely from the traditional Catholic repertoire of polyphony and plainsong, with the addition of suitable works from the Anglican tradition on occasion. In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will direct or play on Holydays and other occasions, namely Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.
The successful candidate will have experience of choral directing. Ideally this experience will have been gained within a Catholic context, but this is not essential – what is essential is knowledge of and sympathy with Catholic liturgical ethos. The church welcomes applications from organists with choral directing experience, though applications from suitably qualified musicians who do not play the organ will also be considered, as it may be possible for organ playing duties to be fulfilled by an organ scholar.
Hours of work: 7 hours per week(flexible working pattern and will include evenings and weekends).
Salary: £7000 - £7500 per annum (dependent on skills and experience).
Closing date: Friday 2nd March 2018 @ 5pm

Start Date: Ideal start as soon as possible.
