The Diocese of Westminster, led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, oversees over 200 parishes, 212 schools, and manages around 900 social justice projects. The diocese covers the boroughs of London north of the Thames and west of the Lea River, the Borough of Spelthorne in Surrey, and the County of Hertfordshire.
The Diocese has in recent years invested in many diverse programmes. Caritas Westminster has a three-year strategy to create inclusive and caring communities with priorities including the care of rescued trafficked women and the provision of education to adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. The Diocese has a new Youth overnight retreat centre. The Seminary is undergoing refurbishment. An academy conversion programme is underway for schools. The Sick and Retired Priests’ Fund ensures our priests receive the care and support they deserve after a life of service.
These are some of the many ways the Diocese is extending the love of God to others around them in their families, local communities and care of the stranger. The Director of Development will help to financially enable this work.
With the fundraising & stewardship team, the Director’s key priorities will be to enhance current fundraising programmes and plan new initiatives: ensure that parishes, the building blocks of the Diocese, are supported in their fundraising; support the growing Caritas programmes; support the Seminary and the Catholic Chaplaincy for London’s Universities. The Director will develop the strategic vision for fundraising, paying particular attention to the large donor programme and development of the digital fundraising strategy.
The Director will have led fundraising departments and enabled cultural change in charities, will possess excellent interpersonal skills, an inherent ability to lead people, digital competence, excellent project management and organisational skills.
An understanding of the social and moral teachings of the Catholic Church is essential.
