Archbishop Vincent Nichols has congratulated Prince William and Kate Middleton on the announcement of their engagement.
He said: 'I was delighted to hear the news of the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton. My congratulations to both of them and I wish them every happiness in their married life together.'
'I assure them of our prayers and best wishes.'
Earlier today The Prince of Wales announced the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.
The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
